The MCDCC Opposes the Candidacy of Brenda Diaz for Board of Education

The Montgomery County Democratic Party opposes the candidacy of Brenda Diaz in her effort to be elected as an at-large member of the Montgomery County School Board. The MCDCC has asked our volunteers to share this statement with voters during the election, and they may do so proactively even if the voter has not requested information about school board races. The MCDCC’s action is not an endorsement of any other candidate running for a Board of Education seat.

Earlier this year, the MCDCC adopted a Rules change that allows us to oppose school board candidates who do not reflect the values of the Democratic Party, as determined by a two-thirds vote of the MCDCC members. This was in response to similar actions taken by the Maryland State Democratic Party in 2024, aimed at countering the far-right agenda championed by extremist and hate-group aligned candidates running in non-partisan school board races around the state.

In 2024, Brenda Diaz was one of several candidates who ran for the school board in Montgomery County while embracing the Moms for Liberty movement that attacked foundational precepts of a modern liberal education. Moms for Liberty has been designated as an extremist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and has taken an active role in promoting school board candidates in Maryland who seek to undermine public education. Their hate and anti-freedom agenda include book bans, targeting LGBTQ+ youth, and rewriting our history.

Diaz’s regressive social values earned her the endorsement of the Montgomery County Republican Party in 2024 and again in 2026. She appears prominently on their website, their social media and their “Blue Book Ballot,” a document which aims to create confusion among voters as to its origin. The Blue Book Ballot is NOT connected to or supported by the Democratic Party in any way.

Our children deserve an education that is free from hate and biases. The MCDCC urges Democrats and all other voters to reject Brenda Diaz as she seeks election to the Montgomery County Board of Education.

Beware of Misleading “Sample Ballots” and Other Materials

The Montgomery County Democratic Party / Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) does not endorse candidates or produce a sample ballot during the primary election.

Campaign literature produced and/or distributed by the MCDCC is clearly labeled with “Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee” or “Montgomery County Democratic Party” and will carry an authority line (small text at the bottom stating who paid for the materials) that says the same thing. Anything that does not meet those criteria is not a product of the MCDCC, nor does it constitute candidate endorsement by the MCDCC.

In addition, canvassers at the polls wearing blue t-shirts with a red label that says “MOCO DEMS who will fight for us” are working for the Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors (GAAR) and are not supported by or affiliated with the Montgomery County Democratic Party.
