Opportunity Knocks for High School or College Students
Take action by Tuesday, June 20, 2006
Duties, depending on the
intern’s abilities and the office’s activities,
will include maintaining databases, editing the
website (www.mcdcc.org), writing correspondence
(letters and e-mails), coordinating mailings,
preparing flyers, assisting in preparing and
sending Dollars Drive materials, operating
phone banks, and writing stories for the
Central Committee’s monthly newsletter, The
Montgomery Democrat.
While it is
unpaid, the internship is an excellent
stepping-stone into any political future. One
of our former interns became a student member
of MCDCC, and another got a job on Doug
Duncan’s campaign! The interns will be exposed
to how the Democratic Party works at the
grassroots level. The position is an excellent
networking opportunity, and there will be
plenty of chances to meet party activists,
candidates, and local elected officials.
We need mature high school or college
students who are willing to work two or three
days each week. Applicants should have a
demonstrated interest in Democratic Party
campaign activities, strong computer literacy,
basic office skills, good writing ability, and
a pleasing personality.
Andrew Platt,
an intern in 2004, described his internship
experience as follows: “Political grassroots
work is key to a successful political party;
whether it is recruiting volunteers or the
set-up of the monthly newsletter. I have
learned a variety of tasks that will help me in
a future of politics.” For more information,
please contact MCDCC Member Alan Banov at legalrun@aol.com,
202-822-9699 (day) or 301-942-6279 (night), or
Beth Siniawsky, Member, Maryland Democratic
State Central Comm., at hocuspocus@erols.com, or
301-588-0110. Beth has arranged for lunches for
interns at the House Members’ Dining Room on
Capitol Hill. It has been a great experience
for our past interns!
To apply, send your resume to
either Alan or Beth or complete the application
below and send it to one of them. MCDCC is
located at 3720 Farragut Ave., Kensington, just
north of the intersection of Connecticut Ave.
and University Blvd. Parking is free, and a
Ride-On Bus stop is nearby.
