Gabriel Albornoz has been a member of MCDCC since 2009. and was unanimously elected to serve as Chairman in December 2012, becoming the first Latino to hold this position. He has served Chairman of the District 18 Democratic Caucus and has been a member of the Hispanic Democratic Club of Montgomery County for over five years.
Mr. Albornoz has served as the Director of the Montgomery County Recreation Department since 2007 and serves on the Governor’s commission for State Parks. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the County’s Positive Youth Development Initiative, and Co-Chair of the Senior Sub Cabinet. Mr. Albornoz is on the Board of Directors of the Montgomery County Collaboration Council for Children and Youth Families and the St. Anne’s Home for Children, Youth and Families.
Mr. Albornoz is a graduate of the University of Maryland’s Rawlings Fellowship and is a member of the Leadership Montgomery Class of 2008. He has received numerous community awards recognizing his work with youth and families.
Mr. Albornoz was born and raised in Montgomery County, Maryland. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Business Administration from the Johns Hopkins University. He lives in Kensington, Maryland with his wife Catherine, their daughter Alicia, and sons Paul and Mateo.
